Santa Run for The Alzheimer’s Society
This year, members of our Care Team and our Clients took part in the Santa Run raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society. We provide Dementia Care to many individuals across the UK and understand the effect this has on the individual, their friends and their family. We loved the Sanata photos our Care Team sent through to us and they had such a good time, helped raise money for a good cause and kept fit.
Dressed as Santa, hundreds of participants run around a course in Victoria Park London and we’re told it really is a sight to see.
225,000 will develop dementia this year. 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 have dementia. 70 per cent of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems. There are over 40,000 people under 65 with dementia in the UK. The Alzheimer’s society help support those living with forms of Alzheimer’s by setting up volunteer groups, support services and providing expert advice. They have helped people across the UK who have a form of Alzheimer’s and those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.
An understanding of dementia is imperative when caring for someone. Through our Dementia Care Service a one to one live in carer can help support someone at home. Together with family members, a carer can get to know what may cheer or calm the person in their care. There might be a particular meal they like to eat or a particular routine they like to maintain which, if not followed, could leave someone feeling upset or confused. Having a one-to-one carer will enable an individual to be cared for surrounded by familiarities within the comfort and safety of their own home.
Our Care Team understand the importance of quality dementia care which is why, alongside our Clients, they chose to support the Alzheimer’s Society Santa Run.
