Live-in Care Hub launches new research in Better at Home Report

May 19, 2021

What is the Better at Home Report?

The Better at Home Report looks at the benefits of community-based care, over that of a conventional residential care setting. Key findings look at the safety and wellbeing of those in institutionalized care settings and compare the standard of care and quality of life with those who enjoy the significant benefits of receiving care at home.

The latest research published by the The Live-In Care Hub, a coalition of leading live-in care providers, reveals that institutionalized care in the UK in a state of disrepair. The nationwide study surveyed more than a thousand care homes and nursing homes to offer a picture of what life in a care home looks like in comparison to alternative care options such as live-in care.

Our blog article from August 2020, ‘Live-in care: The safest option during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic’ highlighted: ‘Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, care homes – more than any other type of social care provision – have become synonymous with higher than average infection and death rates. The combination of older, frail and often already unwell people sharing communal living space, hospital-to-care-home discharge policies that in the early stages of the pandemic involved no testing prior to discharge, inadequate testing capacity within care homes themselves and failures in personal protective equipment (PPE) provision have proved to be disastrous, leaving numerous families with loved ones in care homes either bereaved or extremely worried.’

For many people, choosing community-based care has been a life-saving decision. Receiving care and support at home, either with around-the-clock, live-in care, or domiciliary care, has proven to have significant benefits for physical and mental health.

The Live-in Care Hub’s Better At Home Report calls for the government to take a more holistic person-centered approach to social care, ensuring that they enable health and social care to be truly integrated and adopt community-based care.

Who are the Live-in Care Hub?

Founded in 2013, The Live-In Care Hub is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 20 providers of Live-in Care committed to creating awareness of 24/7 care at home and therefore raising the quality of care in the UK.

As the expert in live-in care, the Hub guides families through all the options in an honest, impartial way. It’s all about offering an enhanced life at home that challenges the traditional view that residential care homes are the only answer.

All the Hub’s care providers are also members of the United Kingdom Care Association. Both organizations share a vision to guarantee the very highest standards of care.
